Our international projects

Implementation of foreign aid

The main purpose is improved governance on central, regional and local levels, sustainable land use, secure land markets, safe navigation at sea.

The effects on society are improved governance and enhanced public services to private and public sectors, which will contribute to European integration.

The effects for the target group of the project are improved and more transparent access to up-to-date geographic information (electronic maps and registers) for a wide range of usage in public and private sectors.

The main products are geographic information in digital form, accessible for all as products and services on Internet.

Current projects and results:

Albania:

• A new modern mapping authority in Albania with a functioning Geoportal providing public access to topographic maps.
• Albania can now fulfill its national hydrographic obligations in accordance with the UN Convention SOLAS due to training and receiving a fully equipped vessel for sea mapping.

Bosnia-Herzegovina:

• Digital Archive Systems fully rolled-out for the Mapping Authorities in both entities of Bosnia-Herzegovina.
• Densified and upgraded national positioning system operational in both entities of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Kosovo:

• All cadastral maps entered into the central database in Kosovo.
• Implemented road name signs, house number signs, and updated address register in Kosovo.

Montenegro:

• The central Address Register system ready for rollout to entire society, ensuring a unique address for all citizens and businesses, supporting future census, political elections and contributes to the development of social-economic prosperity in Montenegro.
• Implemented a modern data infrastructure for data management and data distribution enabling an effective map production at Real Estate Administration of Montenegro.

North Macedonia:

• Established the Digital Terrain and Surface Model covering 2/3 of territory of North Macedonia very valuable for spatial planning, crisis management, creation of hazard maps and analysis related to flood exposed areas in North Macedonia.

Serbia:

• Procured software and development of strategy for strengthening information security capacities of Republic Geodetic Authority of Serbia.

Regional projects:

• First version of vertical reference frame for the region of Western Balkan relevant for climate change adaptation.

Georgia:

• New largescale maps for ca. 45000 sq.km of teritorry of Georgia that will form a basemap for National Spatial Data Infrastructure and support national reporting on implementation of the SDGs are urgently needed for completion of the state programme on massive land privatisation and registration. The project will as well establish a well-functioning mechanism for sharing geodata with professional users at central and local governmental levels, private sector and public in general.

Kyrgyzstan:

• Since collapse of the Soviet Union, there was no nationwide updates of maps in Kyrgyzstan. Finally, in 2019, a new and long-awaited aerial imagery of over 22000 sq.km was captured with the support from Norway. New orthophoto and digital terrain model will be published on a new geoportal that is also being developed in the current project.
  Kyrgyzstan is very active with the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals, underlining that 16 of 17 goals are relevant for the country. New geospatial data delivered in the project will support the country's engagement in Agenda 2030.

Moldova:

• Kartverket has been in Moldova since 2006 and successfully implemented four projects delivering two generations of orthophoto and digital terrain model; setting up a nation-wide CORS-network; developing a new IT system for property registration and cadastre; building up technical and professional capacities at our cooperating partner – Agency for Land Relations and Cadastre. Currently, a new basemap for the whole of Moldova is being produced and the work will be completed in March 2021.

Ukraina:

• Production of up-to-date 1:50 000 maps in seamless database available in a public Geoportal.
• Satellite based positioning system with services operational.
• IGIF action plan in place.
