You can easily print out your own free map for your next hiking trip or download our app «Hvor?» so you'll know where you are - even without mobile coverage.
It is possible to print out your own map by using the ‘My Hiking Map’ feature at norgeskart.no. The maps you print out will have approximately the same design as the paper maps that can be bought in shops, and you can be sure that you get the latest version. They are updated every single week. You can also choose the exact area that you want to make a map of.
How to make your own map
- Zoom in and place the cursor over the area that you want to print out.
- Click on ‘Make Map’ in the menu that appears on the left-hand side of the screen.
- If necessary, adjust the area displayed in the orange field and click on the ‘Make Map’ button.
- Wait while the map is generated and then click on the ‘Download Map’ button to create a PDF file that can be printed out.
Areas of use/application
The maps are well suited as hiking maps for use in the mountains, in the forest, along the coast and for hunting and fishing. They are easy to read and help you to both plan your trip and find your way through the terrain. Grids and coordinates help you to calculate compass bearings and distances. The maps are also well suited for use with GPS receivers.
It is also possible to highlight marked trails. Of course, the map also contains nautical information so you can plan both a hiking trip in the mountains and a kayak trip.
Download the map app
If you want to have access to a map at all times, the Norwegian Mapping Authority has created an app called ‘Hvor?’. This app allows you to easily download maps for entire counties without them taking up too much space on your mobile phone. You will always have access to maps on your mobile phone, even when you are out in the forest and fields without mobile coverage. Hvor? is always able to show you where you are if you get lost!
The app can be downloaded from both the App Store and Google Play. Have a great trip!
